Allan Quatermain

He agrees to go with some men to find King Solomon's Mines

Sir Henry Curtis
A big strong man, timid, but violent when extremely angry. About forty years old. Very rich, and has a deep sense of regret for fighting with his brother. His brother went in search of King Solomon's Mines after he and Henry got in a fight. Henry hires Allan to help him search for the Mines and his brother because Allan has the only map.
Captain Good
A retired naval officer, who loves to be neat, tidy, and clean. About forty. But he agrees to go with Sir Henry on the expedition, for the diamonds. He also curses a lot, but they don't put much of it in the book.

Starts off in some place I don't know, but all three end up on a boat sailing for their home somewhere in South Africa and they decide to go off in search for the treasure. Then they go deeper in to South Africa, it never really says where.

I don't know, maybe that life is precious, because the author repeats that over a few times. Like when the characters fight the evil savage leader, because he is an unjust man, who does not value life above the food he eats.
Treasure, friendship, and doing what's right even when it may cost you your life.
Life is more precious than gold.
The three men were trapped in Solomon's treasure room and there is no way out. Then when Allan says that there is fresh air and not stale or musty air they began searching, in the dark, for a way out, and they find one.

- Sir Henry and Captain Good find Allan and convince him to go with them in search for the treasure.
- They hire a man called Umbopa to help them in the desert
- They cross the desert and reach Kaukaland, where savage natives live.
- They are mistaken for Gods and taken to the royal city of Loo, where they meet King Twala, a fearsome lord who rules over his people with terror.
- The Man Umbopa is found out to be the real king that had supposedly died as a small child many years ago, after King Twala killed his father, who was Twala's twin brother. They fight a great war and defeat King Twala.
- Then Good, Sir Henry, and Allan, go in search for the treasure and find it. They return home and live out the rest of their lives in luxury.

I thought it was very good, intriguing, suspense filled, and good characteristics of the main guys.
I liked how it was found out that Umbopa was King and when they tried to in spite a rebellion the generals asked for a sign. Good brought out his almanac that he had in his medical bag, and told them that they would darken the moon for a full hour. But actually he was telling them about the eclipse that was about to happen. And that was all the superstitious savages needed to convince them that the white men were really gods.
How in the hunting expeditions they killed nine elephants and then only cut off the tusks, and buried the rest of the elephant.
Only some of the times, but mostly it was an easy read.
Not really. . .
Actually pretty good, Henry found his brother, and they shared the diamonds that they had brought from the cave, and lived the rest of their lives together as very good friends.

Excellent job. Just write in full sentences so I know what question you are answering like: "How in the hunting..." "Not really." "Actually, pretty good". I'm not sure what the question was, so just add that at the begining of the sentence so it makes sense.
ReplyDeleteOne other point. "suspense-filled" should be hyphenated.
Sounds like a great book.
