Journey to America

Sonia levitin escaped from germany in the 1930s. This story is based upon that story.

Sonia levitin

Journey to America

This book was published in New York,NY in 1970.

In this book it talks about how a lot of the jews that lived in Germany were hated very much.
It talked about how a lot of them had tried to escape by train. It was also very danger for them to try to escape.
Also a lot of them tried to smuggle money to America but if you got caught by the guards you would get in very big trouble.
It showed how a lot of Jews went through a lot of trouble trying to get to America it also showed that even in Switzerland some people wasn't very nice.

I kind of like how it was not very long and how it does not give very many details.

I did not like it how it was all about three girls.

The title represent the title in the way that these girls and there mother were trying to get to America

I don't think that that there was any fiction added to this book.

My Brother Sam is Dead

My Brother Sam is Dead

James Lincoln Collier & Christopher Collier

War, division, ....

2

Tim Meeker is the main character.

The book starts out with Tim as twelve years old, and it ends at about four years later.  He is the son of a tavern owner, trying to decide which side of the revolutionary war he is supporting.  He is the youngest of two kids.

Tim does right when he steps up to the man of the house after his father dies, and his brother runs away.

....................

Sam Meeker is Tim's older brother.

He is a college student finding himself on the Rebel's side during the revolutionary war.  He takes his father's gun and heads off to fight in the war, leaving his father, mother, and younger brother to fend for themselves.

Life Meeker is Tim's father.

He owns a tavern, and firmly believes that all colonist were under the authority of the King, and that no matter what he did, it was their duty to remain faithful to the King.  He truly is the head of the family, and takes no division among his family.

3

In America during the Revolutionary War.

The specific place in the story is Redding, Connecticut.

4

Maybe that War is a gruesome thing, and sometimes unfair, yet sometimes necessary

division, war, action,

I learned that not all that the American's did was right in the War, or as they put it, 'war turns men into beast'.

...........................

5

  1. Sam takes his father's gun and runs off to join the war, against his father's will, on the rebel's side.
  2. On a trip to trade cattle, Tim's father is taken captive by the BRITISH, and died two months later on a prison ship.
  3. Tim steps up into his father's position, and takes care of his mother.
  4. Tim finds out that Sam's regiment is going to be staying a mile away, and Sam himself is going to be in with the general, in the house next to him.
  5. Sam is accused of cattle thieving (which he didn't), and is shot a month later.
6

It was a good book, but had quite a bit of language.

I liked in the end how Tim tried to save his brother, it showed real love.

I didn't like how it took so long for Tim to decide whether he was a Tory or a Rebel.

It was kind of confusing when it told all about like where Sam's regiment was staying, because I'm not familiar with all the different cities.

No, the story wasn't really predictable.

Extremely sad.  Sam is shot for a crime he did not do.

The Scarlet Pimpernel

Written by Baroness Emmuska Orczy

Action/adventure/suspense/mystery

2

Lady Marguerite Blakeney, wife of Sir Percy Blakeney is the main character in this book.

She is the wife of a very rich and handsome man named Sir Percy Blakeney.  She was nicknamed "the cleverest woman in all of England."  She is very beautiful and many people wondered why she married Sir Percy (because he is rather dull.)

The main character does right when she tries to save her husband because she had accidentally betrayed him.

________

Percy Blakeney is another character is this book who plays an important role, in fact he is the Scarlet Pimpernel.

He married  Lady Marguerite, formally known as Marguerite St. Just.  He is one of the richest men in England and a friend of the Prince of Wales.  He is tall, strong, but rather dull.  He only acts dull to throw the french off his scent.

Chauvelin is the bad guy in this book, and he's a good bad guy.

Chauvelin is part of the french police, sent to England to find the elusive Scarlet Pimpernel.  He is short but thin, and has a wolf-like face with yellow eyes.

3

Hmm, I'm not really sure about that.

courage, betrayal, love, daring rescues, bad guys v. good guys.

A problem in the book was that Chauvelin found out where Percy and his men were hiding, and so Percy, finding out he knew, almost sacrificed his life to get them a letter to get out of the house.

4

  1. Chauvelin finds evidence that Lady Marguerite's brother, Armand, is in league with the scarlet pimpernel, and so he threatens her, that unless she helps him find the scarlet pimpernel, that he would have her brother beheaded.  So she agrees.
  2. Marguerite finds leads Chauvelin to the whereabouts of the scarlet pimpernel, but she herself knows nothing about it being her husband.
  3. Marguerite finds a ring in her husbands study with a scarlet pimpernel on it, and she finds out that he really is the scarlet pimpernel.  And so she goes after him to warn him that Chauvelin is after him.
  4. Percy makes Chauvelin take some pepper he thought was snuff.
  5. Percy dresses up like an old Jew and leads them to the house, but slips away and warns the inhabitants to flee.
  6. Chauvelin finds out he has been tricked.  And so he leaves Marguerite and the Jew, and Marguerite finds out that the Jew is actually Percy.
6

I thought the book was very good.

I really liked Percy, he is my favorite guy.

I don't know if I didn't like any part of the story.

It was a bit confusing as it neared the end, it got slower.

It was a little predictable, because I had seen the movie a while ago.

Marguerite found Percy and they were reunited.

The People of Sparks

The people of Sparks

Action Adventure

Doon Harrow

Doon harrow is a smart, quick tempered boy, about the age of twelve or thirteen.

Doon Harrow does the right thing when, every thing in the city of sparks start to catch on fire and he begins to help put it out.

Lina Mayfleet

Lina Mayfleet, is an adventurous, quick decision making girl, about twelve or thirteen years old.

Tick Hassler

Tick Hassler is a leader of many people.  His choices could be both bad and they could be for good.  But most of the time for bad.

This whole story took place in a city called sparks.  The whole story is about what the world is going to look like in the future.

I think the author is trying to make a point that if war in the world does not stop soon the whole world is going to be destroyed.

This story is about working hard, doing the right thing, greed, and the importance of friends.

One problem that happened in this story is people in the world did not know how to make electricity so Doon finds out.

The people of ember come out of there city because the whole underground world that the people of Ember were living in was begining to die.

The people of sparks agree to let the Emberites stay, in order that they can learn about how to make houses and how to farm crops.  The leaders of sparks decide that they can stay for 6 months.

They are taken to what once was a big hotel called the pioneer hotel  to stay for there 6 months.  The people of ember like it there at first but then they began to hate it.

After a while the people of sparks begin to start feeding the Emberites less food every day.  So then they Emberites begin to get angry.

A boy named Torren blames Doon Harrow that he smashed a crate of tomatoes.  But really it was torren who smashed them.

Tick Hassler Begin to do stuff that makes the Emberites angry at the people of Sparks which turns into a war. In which a couple of people get hurt.  But in the end, Doon and Lina find a way which makes the people of sparks and the Emberites friends.

I think the book was a really good book.
I really liked the conflict that was in the book and how it was solved.
I don't really think that the story was confusing or hard to believe.
Well yes the story was kind of predictable.
The ending was a great ending.
